Becoming a firefighter is a tough job. It’s not always about having a “cool job” or “playing hero”. It’s even not about the money. Rather it’s all about your willingness to take risks for others. The scope of the job of a firefighter is not only limited to dealing with fire. · Weigh the risks: You should take all the risks in consideration before deciding that applying for firefighter jobs is a good career option for you. You should be physically and mentally prepared to undergo extensive training to become a firefighter. You should also weigh the risks endured by your family if you choose a profession that can be life threatening at times.  


· Choose your option: If you have a yen for becoming a firefighter but do not have ample time to spare for this job then you should consider becoming a voluntary firefighter. As a voluntary firefighter you would only have to be present at emergencies as compared to being a full time firefighter who has to remain at the fire station at all the times. 


· Attempt Tests: You should accept the fact that when you apply for firefighter jobs, you would have to attempt a test. It’s mandatory to clear the test in order to become a firefighter. You should remember the fact that you can do some research and study a lot to clear the test. It’s advised that you speak with people currently working as a firefighter. This would give you an insight of their lifestyle and your performance in the test would improve.


· Be Yourself: You should also try to be yourself at all stages of achieving your dream of working as a firefighter by securing one among many firefighter jobs. You should never lie in an interview and express your feelings openly towards the employer. If you have the skills required to be a firefighter, the interviewer would recognize it and you would have your firefighting job. You must not brag about anything in the interview as it may be harmful for you later on. For example: If you have no exposure of operating firefighting equipments but you say that you do, then you may be asked to use the equipment and failure to perform may cut your chances for the job completely. 


· Never Lose Hope: You should know that there are many candidates out there that are trying to get the firefighting job, but the number of the firefighter jobs is actually very limited. So you may fail in one test and have to attempt another. The key to success is to keep trying hard and never lose hope. You should attempt the test again and again until you succeed.
